Capital Improvement:
Plans are currently being developed to replace a badly deteriorated 30 year old wood frame building. This building is used to house 25 school age children ranging from ages 6 to 11. The building, once used as a mobile bank, was donated to Bethune by Pacific Southwest Bank in 1991.
The need for replacing this building is twofold: First, the current building is beyond repair, and second, we need a larger space due to the growing number of children needing after school, holiday, and summer camp care. During the school year Bethune picks up children from nine different surrounding public schools and is the only after school program on the north side of town. The after school, holiday, and summer camp programs are also available to families living in various community shelters. Since September 2007, Bethune has served over 150 children
from these local emergency shelters.
